Franklin County Memorial Hospital opened
on June 6, 1952, as a county government owned hospital. The hospital
was expanded in 1975 to provide ten new patient rooms, a new surgery,
as well as new laundry, dietary and laboratory accommodations. The
medical clinic was also constructed on the hospital campus.
In 1994, the hospital opened four Certified
Rural Health Clinics, one each in Campbell, Hildreth, Franklin and
Red Cloud. These clinics operate on appointment basis with services
of the Physicians, Physician Assistant and/or the Nurse Practitioners.
In 1996, the hospital opened a Physical
Medicine clinic at 709 15th Avenue in Franklin to provide physical
therapy and occupational therapy services.
In 2003-2004, the hospital obtained
a $1,000,000 bond funding that allowed the hospital to renovate the
physical plant with environmental equipment for heating, ventilation,
and cooling. Electrical upgrade and new generator installation was
included.
The hospital became a Certified Critical
Access Hospital in January of 2000 and a Designated Basic Trauma
Center in October of 2004. Providing basic medical services appropriate
to the needs of our community in a sustainable manner is the focus
of the hospital.
